Dr. Babulal receives $3.98 million R01 from NIH/NIA

Dr. Babulal was awarded an R01 (AG067428) from the National Institute on Aging. This 5-year study will investigate how depression, preclinical Alzheimer disease, and antidepressant use affect driving behavior in cognitively normal older adults (≥ 65 years of age). Depression and symptomatic AD independently increase the risk of an automobile crash. Depression is also a factor for conversion to symptomatic AD, yet it is often used as an exclusion criterion for aging studies. Little is known about the effects of depression and presence of preclinical AD on daily driving behavior.
